I was speaking to a friend the other day who is involved with individuals who travel, often great distances, to perform re-enactments of historical events. He and his wife have been doing this for a number of years and have collected the proper costume and things that make for an authentic recreation of things as they were in centuries past. They also thoroughly enjoy this activity and opportunity. He mentioned that many records may be found on the leaders and rulers of the past, but records of the average or common person were extremely few and far between. The life of the common folk is not easily found, because so few wrote about their lives and circumstances. To find such a record was like finding unexpected treasure, my friend said. And so it is. Have you ever come across the writings of your ancestors and found that you were absolutely spellbound as you read about their lives, their experiences, and their feelings? It makes such a tangible connection between you and your forbearers who have passed on so long ago. What is particularly awesome is to read of the acts of providence, or acts of God that have affected or even changed your own ancestors lives. Miraculous and important events that have changed the course of their own personal history. Daily deeds and personal challenges that carved and molded them into the people and personalities that they became. Now think about it. If you are so interested in reading about your ancestors, how do you think your descendants will feel about reading the events of your own life? Thats right. They will want to read all about your own daily deeds and personal challenges that carved and molded you into the person you are, even now, becoming. So start now. Get a notebook or steno pad (I prefer the steno pad because it is so much easier to carry around) and begin today. You dont need to be a literary genius and you dont need to write every day. Just write as you have experiences that are special and important to you that you would like to share with someone. Tell of your own feelings about the events in your life. Share your own challenges that you have faced and how you overcame them. Write of you successes and your struggles. It lets others know of your own human nature. Share your joys and your sorrows. Write about your plans and hopes and dreams and your desires for personal improvement. Write of the births and deaths, new life and discoveries as well as losses and change. Take time to write about and honor those whom you love who have served you and how others have honored your willing service, as well. Begin today. Write now. Someone will thank you for your insight, experiences and wisdom. Someone whom you have never met, but who will need your answers.and your strength. |
