Take the Path of Most Resistence to Get Out of the Storm

Author: Cynthia VanLandingham

A vision is the map to achieving your dream. It will save you from wandering in generalities. It points to the actions you need to take, the steps along the way to reach your goals that become clearer over time. Creative persistence and commitment are part of this process that will reap a harvest if you do not give up.

To maintain your commitment over time it's important to view your problems and frustrations as potential blessings. In addition, directing our focus and our questions to areas where we feel challenged leads us to growth we might otherwise have missed out on. Here is what Dom Famularo, musician, author and motivational speaker says about taking the path of most Resistance.

Going down is a lot easier than going up. Going up is the path of most resistance. Going up takes energy, imagination and a little bit of nerve.

You have to be willing to take a leap to the next (stepping) stone, and be ready to get wet when you miss. Its all part of the adventure of learning.

Some people settle for a life of contentment. Their idea of a perfect life is one void of strife. Weve all heard about how water always takes the path of least resistance. Well, thats the way some people allow themselves to live. Always opting for the easy path, acting more like rainwater than peopleheading down all the time, down the drain, settling for the low spot, where they seep into the ground, never to be heard from again.

I want more out of lifeAnd so I embrace frustration, not run away from it. For I know that the true path to personal growth is a road lined with frustration and dotted with obstacles to hurdle.

I cant always remove the obstacles in my path, but I can learn to become a better hurdler!

Choosing the easy path means stagnation, unused potential, and a quicksilver kind of contentment that may start out tasting like wine, but over time turns to vinegar.

Frustration forces us to find a better way. This is why I hug frustration. In embracing frustration, I have decided to remove the word problem from my life.

Problems are negative. The word shifts the focus away from the person speaking and toward the subject. It presupposes that fault and responsibility for failure lies with that object or person, rather than you.

I prefer to use the word challenge, a word that puts the responsibility of action on me.

Chosing love over anger will keep you moving forward. Why choose not to be angry? Because, besides filling you with hate, anger can make you do really stupid stuff. Stupid stuff like twisting words into untruth, and unjustifiably withholding love. Anger is a big storm that distracts and gives a diversion from reality, an escape from grief or guilt or disappointment or action you need to take. Anger expresses control that always comes with a price tag. To give yourself an anger inoculation try reading When Anger Hurts: Quieting the Storm Within, by Matthey McKay.

To keep moving forward find whatever it is thats challenging you, and dont run away from it. Head right at it and embrace your frustration. It will only move you higher toward places you once thought were beyond your reach.
