So What's So Great about Liposuction?

Author: Angela P. Smith

Liposuction, Diet, and Exercise

Although any good plastic surgeon will explain in detail that a good diet and exercise is necessary for everyone, liposuction can remove stubborn areas of fat that aren't responding to traditional weight-loss methods. Contrary to popular belief, the best candidates for liposuction or those of normal weights, with firm, elastic skin and pockets of excess fat in particular areas. To be considered you must be physically healthy, psychologically stable and overall realistic in expectations. Although patients of any age can be considered for the liposuction procedure, older patients have slightly less skin elasticity and it's possible they won't receive the best results.

Pain from Liposuction

Two words: Fluid drainage. It's possible for a patient to have a small drainage tube inserted beneath the skin for a couple days to stop the build up of fluids internally. Another worry is swelling; you'll probably be fitted with an elastic garment to wear, and you're going to definitely need antibiotics for infection.

It's definitely going to be an uncomfortable experience, but the level of pain will differ from person to person.

Liposuction Recovery

So just how long does it take to recover from a standard liposuction procedure? While it definitely differs from person to person, each patient should be able to get up and walk around easily. You should even be able to sleep comfortably throughout the night!

For the first 72 hours the drainage will be consistent, mostly consisting of tumescent solution. The swelling comes down faster if the fluid simply just drains out, and this is easier on the body then having to absorb it then remove it afterward. But what most people aren't aware of is that the rapid drainage of the fluid helps aid to the healing process. The dressings need to be replaced frequently within the first 24 hours, but soon all you'll need is a band aid!

You'll find some bruising which will go away after aw week, and swelling is most definitely. But after the third day you'll be doing everything normal that you would be doing before the surgery, just faster, with a thinner body!
