Eating Sweets Without Gaining Weight

Author: Kimberly Chang

While it is true that sweets can really wreck your diet, you should know that there are ways to enjoy sweets without gaining weight. Many people think that eating one cookie will make you fat. The truth is that one cookie will not make you fat. But eating more than one might cause you to gain weight, or spiral into a pattern of unhealthy eating.

The trick to eating sweets without gaining weight is portion control. You probably know this but may find it much harder to follow through in real life. There are tricks you can do to help yourself along though.

First, you should think about sharing treats when out with a friend. If you are craving dessert, talk a few of your friends into splitting one with you. That way you will not eat the whole thing yourself and everyone can enjoy it.

If you are dining alone, ask the server to cut half of the dessert off and throw it away. This may sound crazy, but it will save your diet for sure. When the server only brings you half of the dessert, you will have no opportunity to binge. If you think you are strong enough to do so, you can instead ask for a box and immediately put half of the dessert into the box and take it home to your roommate or kids.

So, instead of thinking of a world without sweets altogether, simply think of a world where you control your sweet intake. This will help you learn to monitor yourself and your weight, without being too restrictive.
