A Prudent Approach in Using Topical Progesterone

Author: Evie Lampard

In several scientific studies has been concluded that topical estrogens generate important skin enhancement in women at or after the menopause. While small amounts of topical estrogens have no significant systemic effects, some concerns related to this question remain. These concerns are more understandable when some studies claim that one of possible systemic side effect of topical estrogens is high risk of breast cancer.

In this situation, a hormone having the power to improve the skin condition without to increase the breast cancer risk will be more than welcome. There may be such kind of hormone thinking that together with estrogens, ovaries produce another class of hormones, most notably progesterone. It has been shown that during the menopause the levels of progesterone also turn down, but there is no evidence yet that its replacement could lead to a high risk of breast cancer.

Despite of fact some oral progesterone products have been approved by FDA, a practical approach in trying topical progesterone is to wait until more studies will conclude it is available. But things are very simple until it comes to beauty. Then some people choose the unwise option to have it back with any consequences. Until a final research will be available for public information, before trying any products based on progesterone, talk to your gynecologist first.
