Issues With Water Supply and Ethanol

Author: Lance Winslow

If the United States of America is to remove the addiction to Middle Eastern Foreign Oil then we need to get serious about the effect of long-term droughts in the Midwest and the issues of water supply. In states such as North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas there can be serious long-term droughts, which will affect our ability to grow our own fuel.

It is for that reason that we need to review our water rights with Canada along the red river and other places. We must also be concerned with our largest underwater aquifer, which runs through South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas and the panhandle of Oklahoma and northern Texas. Without lots of water supply to grow our own fuel we might be cut short with incredible price spikes if we switch to ethanol.

Additionally it makes sense to put research and development dollars into genetic see modification and manipulation so that we can grow crops with less water to use for ethanol. And as long as we are genetically modifying the seeds we may as well consider developing seeds, which use less fertilizers, pesticides and nitrates. By doing this we will be helping the environment as well as breaking our addiction to Middle Eastern foreign oil. Please Consider This in 2006.
