Occupational Therapy Schools

Author: C. Bailey-Lloyd

Occupational therapy schools offer educational programs, which train students how to become licensed occupational therapists, occupational therapist aides and occupational therapist assistants.

When seeking out an occupational therapy school, it is important to find one that is accredited. Coursework that is provided by accredited occupational therapy schools may include but is not limited to human anatomy, physics, biology, computer science, medical terminology, social and behavioral sciences, and other continuing education courses relevant to the field.

Occupational therapy school students must attain a bachelors degree in an accredited occupational therapy school program prior to entering the work field. Additionally, successful graduates must pass a national certification examination to be awarded the title of Occupational Therapist Registered (OTR).

There are nearly 200 programs offered by occupational therapy schools for both masters degrees and bachelors degrees, according to the US Department of Labor; and like physical therapist careers, occupational therapist profession is also expected to increases much faster than the average for all occupations through 2014.
