Dry Erase Boards

Author: Michael Colucci

A dry erase board is the name of a glossy surface that is used to write down information. In most cases, the dry erase board will be white in color, and this will make it easy to see things that are written down. These boards have widely replaced chalkboards, which were commonly used in the past. Prior to 1994, the vast majority of schools used chalkboards, but dry erase boards begin to become popular after this time. Dry erase boards are more efficient than traditional chalkboards because the information is easy to erase and clean. While chalk was used to write on chalkboards, erase markers are used to write on whiteboards.

These markers could be compared to non-permanent markers. A dry erase board will typically be made from materials such as enamel, plastic, or steel. Boards which are made from steel are magnetic, and this allows people to use magnets to attach important information to them. In addition to this, steel boards allow people to use magnetic erasers. While there are some obvious advantages that dry erase boards have over chalkboards, there are a number of disadvantages they have as well. The good thing about dry erase boards is that the markings made on the board are stronger than the chalk that is written on chalkboards.

Because of this, the marks made on dry erase boards are less vulnerable to things such as spills. In addition to this, dry erase boards are more clean than chalkboards. When chalkboards are used, they will generate a large amount of chalk dust. Another powerful advantage that dry erase boards have over chalkboards is their use with overhead projectors. These boards can be used as a back drop for the project, and this allows an individual to conduct a presentation with the projector while writing down information on the board. At the same time, the combination of dry erase boards with overhead projectors can cause glare.

One of the main disadvantages of dry erase boards is that they are more expensive than chalkboards. It is also important to make sure you use the right markers. If you do not, any markings made on the board may be permanent or difficult to remove. If this happens, a marker with removable ink can often be used to erase the markings. Dry erase boards are commonly used in schools. In these environments, students may mess up the board by using the wrong type of marker. If this happens, a cheap way to correct the problem is to use alcohol on the board. Another commonly cited problem with dry erase boards is the vision issues they can cause. Some people who have vision problems may find it difficult to read information that is written down on a dry erase board.

In recent years, a number of advances have been made to dry erase boards. Some boards are now automated, and have scanners that are connected to them. When marks are made on the board, the scanner will read them and store the information within a computer. Some dry erase boards are also interactive, and can be used with a projector.
