My favorite and most trusted Antivirus FREE or NOT is AVG Antivirus by GRISoft. The FREE version is for home use only and has limited features but there are plenty for a home use computer. Here is where I suggest trying a few different ones. I personally love the Microsoft Offering in this category. It is currently free and hopefully will remain that way. It all started when they bought out company named " GIANT Company Software ". They made a great antispyware application that I was already using. Then I installed the Microsoft Antispyware Beta version of this antispyware and I liked it as well. Now they are calling their solution "Windows Defender" which is in the Beta 2 phase and I still think the program is the best around for free. Some other honorable mentions are AdAware, SpyBot Search and Destroy, and ewido anti-malware which was just recently bought out by GRIsoft which makes the AntiVirus listed above. My favorite firewall is definitely ZoneAlarm from http://www.zonelabs.com. ZoneAlarm is free for individual and not-for-profit charitable entity use.
