More Effective Marketing with Call to Action Phrases

Author: Jamie Estep

When writing advertisement and sales copy, it is important at some point to direct your customer to the specific action that you desire them to take. An often made mistake is assuming that customers will automatically click on a link, call a phone number or even fill out a form, without you ever asking them to. In truth, the best copy in the world will be ineffective without a good call to action.

Using a Call to Action:
A call to action should be used any time that you want a customer to complete an action. Everything from the shortest pay per click ad, to the longest website article, should have a call to action directing customers toward the final goal. Call to action phrases are so simple to implement but are so often overlooked.

Example Calls to Action:
Telephone Actions:
Call Now
Call Us At: 800.***.****
Call Us for a Free Quote
Call Us Today
Call 800.***.**** for More Information
etc...

Website Form and Email Actions:

Avoiding click here's:
Another mistake that many website owners make is by instructing their customers to click on everything. The vast majority of web users know how a link works. By telling them to click on everything, all you are really doing is taking up extra space.

Instead of saying 'click here to email us' you can easily tell you customer to 'contact us'. As long as the link is recognizable as a link, the user will know what to do with it.

These are some very simple tips to help website owners turn their visitors into customers. Although this is common sense, it is one of the most overlooked areas in creating effective website copy.
